Second only to hearing the rumor that print is dead, we hate to hear people say that the printed book is dead. It simply isn’t true. So, today we’re sharing an infographic that supports what we already know — printed books and bookstores are still alive and well.

Of course, we’d be naive to say that e-books and the Internet haven’t changed the way the book publishing and book selling industries function. Worldwide, large commercial bookstores are disappearing, and e-book sales seem to be increasing. However, at Alexander’s we print thousands of books every week, and we’re confident in saying that the printed books will never die.

Below is an infographic created by NowSourcing and LicenseDirect that highlights statistics that indicate the printed book will never die. The graphic also provides valuable information about e-books and book purchases. Here are some of our favorite stats:

  • Only two-thirds of e-book sales “cannibalize” paper book sales
  • Nearly 70% of consumers say it is unlikely that they’ll give up on printed books by 2016
  • Hardcover books sales were up by 10% in the first 8 months of 2013

Take a look at the infographic for more stats, and if you’re a bibliophile, share this infographic with your friends.
