With one day until the 2013 Utah Golf Marathon, we’re staying busy and gearing up for the 54-hole, all-day event. For the past few years Alexander’s has stepped up to raise money for various communities or individuals in need, and this year golfers and Alexander’s team members are hoping to raise $20,000 for the Utah Valley University Men’s Basketball team scholarship fund.

In the past, Alexander’s has raised money for the Utah Food Bank and individuals in need of funds to pay medical bills. But we also place immense value on education, and as an organization we have donated to Keys to Succeed, the Utah Valley Spelling Bee and other educational organizations. Alexander’s feels that doing all we can to help students succeed in academics and education is of utmost importance.

Currently, Utah Valley University athletic scholarships don’t cover the cost of tuition during the summer months. This not only means that many students are left without the financial ability to take summer courses, but they are then forced to load up their course schedule during the basketball season. Our goal is to help students place an added emphasis on academic pursuits, without requiring them to compromise their athletic endeavors. We feel that helping these athletes stay in school during the summer will help them succeed on and off the basketball court.

Hopefully you’re already signed up for a fun-filled day of golf, but if you’re not, you can still register. The event will include breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks, as well as prizes and an auction.
