Today we’d like to help by providing some information about paper fold types.
You may be inclined to stop reading right now if you think that you have no need to know the various names and fold types. In your mind, all you need to know about folds is whether it’s a hot dog (long) or hamburger (short) style fold. (Did you know that terminology?)
If you have ever ordered printed invitations, brochures for your business, or even taught a child how to make a paper airplane, then you’ve needed to know how to fold paper. Am I right?
We frequently receive orders for brochures, but the people ordering can find it challenging to properly communicate how they want the brochures folded. They spend a significant amount of time trying to map out where certain design elements go, so that the final product opens correctly. But the process of explaining proves more and more difficult which each fold they have to explain.
In many cases, understanding some basic fold types would solve the problem.
The Alexander’s prepress team created the following diagram for you to use as you design and order your folded printed materials.
