This story begins with a man named Jeff Alexander who graduated in 1979 with the vision to become an entrepreneur. With that in mind, Jeff started his first printing store, Alexander’s Print Shop, in downtown Provo, Utah. It was a typical retail copy center in the beginning but it quickly grew into 4 more print locations between Salt Lake and Utah County.
Jeff was always forward thinking so he looked for ways to promote the business higher than his competitors. He bought one of Utah’s first hot-air balloons and began flying it around the area, spreading the name of Alexander’s. The business soon became well-known by the balloon’s stars-and-stripes logo and it is still used in hot-air parades and other events today.
When the Xerox Docutech printer came around in November of 1992, Alexander’s dove into the world of large-scale digital printing for businesses. The small retail locations were sold and in 1998 Alexander’s built and moved into the 42,000 square foot location in Lindon, Utah. That’s where you can find us today!
Since then we’ve taken an even wider approach focusing on technology, entire communications packages and solutions rather than just printing. In addition to print we do graphic design, public relations, marketing, technology consulting and much more.
Though proud of our Utah heritage, we now service and ship to customers in all 50 states and to 37 countries around the world.
Since the beginning, we’ve always been keen on giving back to our community. Our CEO Jeff Alexander served on the Utah legislature for 16 years, and our senior vice president Doyle Mortimer for 4. We’ve been involved in everything from spelling bees to golf marathons to give back to the Utah community. Several years ago we got involved in a project to donate paper to schools, and donated around $20,000 of paper materials to public schools in the Utah area. We continue to give excess paper materials to schools today.
Even with the “rise of digital” over the last 20 years, we’ve learned that print is not dead. In fact, we’ve grown in the last 20 years! We’re busier now more than ever because our customers know that print is essential to their success. In addition, we offer technology services, like web development, hosting, variable printing and more. Our software product Divvy allows us to merge print and technology together to deliver print collateral to our customers around the world with the click of a button.
We see ourselves positioned for even more growth. We’ve been ranked in the top 100 printers of the year by Quick Printing Magazine and we are a current finalist for the 2015 DScoop Rod Key Marketing Excellence Award. Our client base continues to expand, and we look forward to every new creative solution.
