Did you hear the big news? BYU signed the biggest recruit in the United States’ college football signing: a 6’7”, 410 pound teenager who they had known for only 15 minutes!
BYU football coach Bronco Mendenhall saw Motekiai Langi playing a pick-up basketball game in 2013 and noticed he was quick on his feet, in good shape, and, obviously… very large. Mendenhall then met with Langi for 15 minutes and asked if he’d like to play football. He had never played real American football, but said he was excited to learn.
Here’s a video that surfaced of Langi playing a football/rugby contact sport of some kind:
As you can see in the video, Langi doesn’t look slow and weighty, but rather built and surprisingly nimble. Coach Mendenhall said when he met him, “When I shook his hand, his hand went almost up to my elbow, and I was like, ‘How can this not being something?'” Here’s a photo of him next to his 6’7”, 265-pound future team mate Bronson Kaufusi.
According to BYU’s website, Langi has never played on a real football team, and has only attended several football camps. Mendenhall says that Langi is excited to learn the sport and teaching him, “will be an adventure.”
We do a lot of work with BYU and the BYU football team, and so they contacted us about helping them with their signing day. We worked together with them to create signage to make the day something unique and special for the players.
We made several posters, including a 12’x8’ 3-D event poster just for the event that they used to announce the athletes that would be joining the team. Check it out:
The project worked out well and we were happy to support them and their program, and we look forward to continue to do so. Let us know if you need help with your signage and we’d be happy to be a huge help to you.
