Last week, our Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations, Pete Codella spoke with KSL News Radio about ‘trip editing.’ Nowadays, people post photos of breathless vacation destinations and exciting adventures they’re having, yet they rarely represent the bad parts of a vacation. Pete spoke with KSL reporters about the interplay between social media and how we represent our lives on social platforms.
“I think people are inclined to do those types of things on personal vacation so they can get more popularity on the social networks afterwards,” Pete told KSL.
Our extensive use of social media launches us into living a public lifestyle, and often times people create a faux celebrity status for themselves by posting photos that only represent the highlights of life. Pete warned listeners about the danger of believing everything you see online. Social networks create a perception of what our life is like, but there is a gap between what is real and what is not. Though posting photos of exotic trips isn’t harmful, we should keep in mind that our online representations are not indicative of complete reality.
