At Alexander’s, we’re more than just a printer. Yes, we have big machines that will print almost anything, but more than that, we’re a partner that helps you accomplish your goals and ambitions. We help clients large and small to do just that, and we love it.
Some of our favorite projects are working with authors to turn their thoughts and ideas into a tangible products. There’s something special for them about finally having a hard copy to touch and read through.
We recently worked with Empire & Great Jones Creative Arts Foundation in Loomia, California.
They collect short stories, poetry and other prose from up-and-coming authors and place them in an anthology alongside other classics. This gives new writers an outlet to put their work to get it out to a larger audience.
Their mission is summed up well by Brian Lewis, their founder and editor:
“My goal is to establish a high-quality, paying market where emerging authors and poets can gain professional experience being published alongside respected and established authors. We set the bar high in order to encourage young writers to continue to excel and develop their talents, and to maintain a publication to which established professionals are excited to submit.”
We at Alexander’s have been helping them in their mission for quite a few years now, as they’re on their 6th volume of the anthology.
This time around, we wanted to help Brian get the most out of his book, and turn it into an art piece itself. He hired an illustrator to sketch up drawings that would accompany the stories and poems and to create a cover that would convey the message it told. We then made sure those illustrations were clear and that the cover was portrayed as it needed to be. We wanted the cover to be not only visually appealing, but also comfortable to the touch. We used a cover material called soft-touch laminate that made the cover have an entirely new, and even more professional feel. The reaction we got back from the foundation was overwhelming. Brian said,
“I expect a certain level of quality from you, but even still these are amazing, just absolutely beautiful…and even though I expected it I was still super pleased and amazed.”
“Everybody has been impressed with the print quality, and several people have asked who I publish with so I’m super excited and I’m proud to be able to say, they are printed locally at Alexander’s. So thanks for that, I really appreciate the great look of these.”
We loved hearing that and were so glad it worked out well. Check out more about the foundation here, and feel free to reach out to them about your own writing!
