Genealogy and family history enthusiasts can continue to order beautiful, leather-bound, full-color printed family history books through MyCanvas thanks to the acquisition of the Ancestry.com service by Alexander’s.
Alexander’s has, in fact, printed every single MyCanvas order since it was launched in 2007. Now the MyCanvas photo book printing service will transition from Ancestry.com to Alexander’s ownership.
Ancestry.com users throughout the United States and Canada will benefit from the continued MyCanvas service which delivers personalized photo books, calendars, posters and more, all connected to genealogical information and photos housed inside Ancestry.com.
MyCanvas also connects to popular online photo services like Picasa and Flickr. As the service moves to Alexander’s, in the coming months, additional connections to online photo sites will be added.
“This is an example of how Internet technology, particularly family history and photo sharing tools, can be used to produce customized, personalized photo books, as well as other household and business printed items,” said Jeff Alexander, CEO of Alexander’s. “We’ve worked with Ancestry.com since the MyCanvas service was launched. We’re happy to continue printing, producing and shipping photo books and other materials for Ancestry.com customers, and we look forward to expanding the online consumer print portal in 2015.”
Ancestry.com made the announcement about the sale of MyCanvas on its blog on Aug. 19, 2014 in a post titled: “MyCanvas Finds a New Home in Alexander’s”.
On that post, more than three hundred customers of Ancestry.com expressed thanks for the decision to sell MyCanvas to Alexander’s, and in so doing, keep the photo book service alive. Here are representative comments from Ancestry.com customers:
“Thank you for this GREAT news. Nothing compares to MyCanvas.com website for creating albums.” — Bessie Grahmann
“Very excited to learn that MyCanvas has found a new home! I have ordered books from MyCanvas in the past and have always been very impressed with the quality of the work. Now I’ll be able to complete my current books as well as start new ones! Thank you Ancestry!” — Susan
