Illustrators know that where marketing efforts are concerned, their art is their brand. So, when it comes to designing a business card, using a standard template just won’t cut it. The freedom of custom design and hand selecting a high quality substrate can make all the difference when introducing yourself and your product to potential clients.

Custom Business Cards

Recently, artists Kimberly Kay and A. N. Gephart came to us to create some marketing materials for their upcoming release, Enchanted Kingdom: A Fairy-Tale Coloring Book. With how competitive the adult coloring book market is, they knew they’d need a quality business card.

Kimberly designed the card’s front with important information, from the book’s title (designed by A. N. Gephart), to the approaching release date. Most importantly, she included a sample of her art, straight out of the coloring books so that recipients could have a chance to “try before they buy”.

With that in mind, Kimberly had also designed one version of the card where the back was a sample, miniature coloring page. However she also designed a back that showed a portion of the cover so that recipients would recognize her book from a glance. These artists asked Alexander’s for a recommendation on which card to pick, and we said, “Why not both?”

With the technology here at Alexander’s, we were able to set up 250 business cards with alternating backs. In addition, Alexander’s recommended using a one hundred pound uncoated cover because the paper would be thick enough to prevent bleed through that could potentially blot out the important information on the opposite side.
